Find a Doctor Redesign

I revamped Sharp HealthCare's Find a Doctor tool, making it easy for patients to narrow a directory of over 2000 providers to find care that meets their needs.

Jobs to be done

From user research, I learned that patients using Find a Doctor have three primary goals.

Appointment access

"I want to view provider availability and schedule an appointment."

In-network providers

"I need to find doctors in my medical group who accept my insurance."

Reassurance and trust

"I've been referred to a specialist and want to make sure I'm seeing a trusted doctor."

How I improved appointment access:

  • Conducted research to validate that patients are open to seeing advanced care providers (NPs and PAs) for routine care. Added these providers to Sharp directory to help alleviate appointment access issues.

  • Created concept of "care partners" and added to provider profiles to promote cross-booking.

  • Added fields to provider admin tool to allow Sharp to manage care partner relationships.

How I guided patients to in-network providers:

  • Included easy-to-use filters for insurance and medical group on the search page.

  • Added an "accepted plans" link to the top of doctor profiles. Clicking on the link opens a modal with a list of accepted providers and plans.

How I reassured patients that they were seeing a trusted doctor:

  • Included features like ratings/reviews and videos to help patients gain confidence in a provider.
